YAYA – “l’autista” di strada

YAYA, raccontaci un po’ di te (nome, età, città di nascita e città in cui sei più attivo artisticamente parlando, ecc.)
Il mio nome d’arte è YAYA o Your alright you are. Con sede a Bradford, Regno Unito, ma soprattutto lavoro molto a Manchester.
YAYA, tell us a little about yourself (Name, age, city of birth and city where you are most active artistically speaking, etc.)
YAYA or Your alright you are. Based in Bradford, UK but mostly work in Manchester, UK.
Quando e come hai iniziato a creare le tue opere d’arte? Da dove viene la tua passione?
Ho iniziato a fare arte di strada nell’agosto 2019. Ho iniziato creando enormi dipinti usando colori acrilici su carta da parati. La mia passione nasce solo dalla mia dipendenza dalla pittura e dal disegno.
When and how did you start creating your works of art? Where does your passion come from?
I started making street art August 2019. I started by creating huge painting using acrylic paint on wallpaper. My passion just comes from my addiction to painting and drawing.
Quando prepari un nuovo lavoro, segui uno schema creativo ricorrente o è molto influenzato dal momento?
Sono ispirato dalla musica, dai film, dalle persone che posso vedere per le strade. Di solito sono caricature di persone comuni. I miei unici personaggi che si ripetono sono Bitter Lemon, Smug Cloud e Franklin.
When you prepare a new work, do you follow a recurring creative pattern or is it very influenced by the moment?
I am inspired by music, film, people I may see on the streets. They are usually caricatures of everyday people. My only characters that make a repeat appearance are Bitter Lemon, Smug Cloud and Franklin.
Che tecnica usi? L’hai sempre usato o è cambiato nel tempo? In caso affermativo, perché?
Creavo davvero solo piccoli fumetti in bianco e nero, ma nell’ultimo anno ho davvero trovato un amore per il colore e ho creato grandi incollaggi dipinti a mano.
What technique do you use? Did you always use that or did it change over time? If so, why?
I used to only really create small balck and white comics but in the past year I have really found a love of colour and creating large hand painted paste ups.
Cosa vuoi trasmettere con i tuoi lavori?
Dipende se si tratta di un’illustrazione, di un racconto sequenziale o di un dipinto. A volte il mio lavoro può essere collegato alla salute mentale e all’autismo.
What do you want to convey with your works?
It depends on if it is an illustration, sequesntial narrative or a painting. Sometimes my work may be linked to mental health and autism.
Cosa ne pensi della street art in Italia e all’estero?
Non conosco molto la street art italiana anche se seguo alcuni artisti italiani su Instagram. Mi piacerebbe tornarci in futuro per esplorare. Sono davvero entusiasta della street art internazionale, in particolare della street art irlandese e neozelandese.
What do you think of street art in Italy and abroad?
I don’t know a huge amount about Italian street art although I do follow some Italian artists on instagram. I’d love to visit again sometime in the future to explore. I’m really excitied by international street art, specifically Irish and New Zealand street art.
Tra tutti i tuoi lavori, qual è quello che ti piace e che ti rappresenta di più? e perché?
Forse il grosso pasticcio di me che mi nascondo dietro creature molto insolite a Manchester, nel Regno Unito. È luminoso, allegro e sfacciato.
Among all your works, which is the one you like and represents you the most? and why?
Possibly the big paste up of me hiding behind very unusual creatures in Manchester, UK. It is bright, cheerful and cheeky.
Quanto tempo ci vuole per preparare un’opera, dall’idea alla parete?
Dipende sempre dalla complessità della composizione. Per A0 più taglie fino a un giorno da creare. inizia pensando alla mia idea, calcolando le dimensioni e le proporzioni, lo strato di base e poi i dettagli. È diventata una routine.
How long does it take you to prepare a work, from the idea to the wall?
It always depends on the complexity of the composition. For A0 plus sizes up to a day to create. it starts with thinking of my idea, figuring out the size and proportions, the base layer and then the details. It has become a routine.
Come ti vedi artisticamente parlando tra dieci anni?
Vivo, si spera.
How do you see yourself artistically speaking in ten years?
Alive hopefully.
Hai collaborato con altri artisti stranieri o vorresti? Chi sarebbe e perché ammiri particolarmente questo artista?
Ho creato alcune collaborazioni con artisti come BentoGhoul @montrosszero e @vezstreetart mi piace lavorare con artisti rilassati che la pensano allo stesso modo.
Have you collaborated with other foreign artists or would you like? Who would it be and why do you particularly admire this artist?
I have created some collabs with artists such as @BentoGhoul @montrosszero and @vezstreetart I enjoying working with like-minded chilled out artists.
Mentori: c’è un artista da cui prendi ispirazione? Se è così, chi è? Come ti ha aiutato?
Solo illustratori dell’infanzia come Edward Gorey e Maurice Sendak. La mia ispirazione di solito viene dai grafici più che dagli artisti di strada. Sono interessato alla narrativa sequenziale e allo storytelling più che alle opere d’arte autonome. Prestando particolare attenzione al concetto, al linguaggio narrativo e visivo e sfidando i miei modi di lavorare.
Mentors: is there an artist from whom you take inspiration? If so, who is it? How did it help you?
Only illustrators from childhood such as Edward Gorey and Maurice Sendak. My inspiration usually comes from graphic designers more that street artists. I am interested in sequential narrative and storytelling more than standalone pieces of artwork. Paying particular attention to the concept, narrative and visual language and challenging my own ways of working.
