Panty baggers – e le donne

Intervista fatta da StickerArt a Panty baggers.
Interview made by StickerArt with Panty baggers.

Siamo in quattro!

Panty baggers, tell us a little about yourself (Name, age, city of birth and city where you are most active artistically speaking, etc.)
There are four of us! We are Anna, Prue, Sarah and Sapph and we are women in our 40s and 50s! We all live in the South Island in New Zealand in small coastal town by the city Dunedin.

When and how did you start creating your works of art? Where does your passion come from?
We all have arty backgrounds but have come together as ‘the pantybaggers’ to create our colláges. We started off by passing around a book from letterbox to letterbox in a retro child’s plastic panty bag to each add our work to it.
Panty baggers, che tecnica usate? L’avete sempre usata o è cambiato nel tempo? In caso affermativo, perché?

Amiamo vecchie riviste, libri, enciclopedie, cartoline, francobolli. Realizziamo poster, libri, adesivi. Usiamo carta, pizzo, tessuto, vernice e penne.

Panty baggers, what technique do you use? Did you always use that or did it change over time? If so, why?
We have continued this way of working so that each piece of work…has had all of us work on it. We have created on children’s early readers, old diaries, and child’s annuals. We have created works using all kinds of words and images gathered from where ever we can find them. We love old magazines, books, encyclopaedias, postcards, stamps. We make posters, books, stickers. We use paper, lace, fabric, paint and pens.

What do you want to convey with your works?
Our images are about a range of things; women, body image, expectations versus reality, society, men’s issues too, sexuality. Our work is sometimes a bit edgy and smutty
Cosa ne pensate della street art in Italia e all’estero?

What do you think of street art in Italy and abroad?
We have enjoyed becoming part of the global community of street artists, sending our posters and stickers to USA, Italy, England, Australia, Greece, Germany and other areas of New Zealand. We like swapping with others and have contributed to paste ups overseas and exhibitions here.

Apparan, have you collaborated with other foreign artists or would you like? Who would it be and why do you particularly admire this artist?
We have just started to think about the Pantybaggers collaborating with others on our or their artworks. We probably have our own individual artists that we take inspiration from. But we really mostly love working together in the way we do and ‘feeding’ off each other. We love what we do because we feel free to do it uncensored!
