Hello the Mushroom, raccontaci un po’ di te (nome, età, città di nascita e città in cui sei più attivo artisticamente parlando, ecc.)
Mi chiamo Sara, vengo da Lisbona, Portogallo. Attualmente vivo in Norvegia e mi sono trasferita qui l’anno scorso, dopo 10 anni nel Regno Unito. Al momento, a causa dei blocchi, non ci sono molte attività da segnalare.
Hello the Mushroom, tell us a little about yourself (Name, age, city of birth and city where you are most active artistically speaking, etc.)
My name is Sara, I’m from Lisbon, Portugal. I am currently living in Norway and I moved here last year, after 10 years in the UK. At the moment and due to lockdowns there isn’t a lot of activity for me to report.
Quando e come hai iniziato a creare le tue opere d’arte? Da dove viene la tua passione?
Ho sempre fatto arte in qualche modo, avendo anche lavorato come artista commerciale in passato. Questa sperimentazione attuale è iniziata nel 2017 circa. Ho ricominciato a giocare con l’arte dopo una lunga pausa e ho scoperto che era ciò di cui avevo bisogno per essere più felice nella mia vita.
When and how did you start creating your works of art? Where does your passion come from?
I’ve always made art in some capacity, having also worked as a commercial artist in the past. This current iteration started in 2017 or so. I started playing around with art again after a long hiatus and discovered that it was what I needed to be happier in my life.
Quando prepari un nuovo lavoro, segui uno schema creativo ricorrente o è molto influenzato dal momento?
Può dipendere, ma la maggior parte delle volte faccio le cose al momento, con pochissima pianificazione. Cerco consapevolmente di contrastare quell’istinto e pensare un po’ di più ai miei pezzi.
When you prepare a new work, do you follow a recurring creative pattern or is it very influenced by the moment?
It can depend, but most times I do things in the moment, with very little planning. I am consciously trying to counteract that instinct and think about my pieces a little bit more.
Che tecnica usi? L’hai sempre usato o è cambiato nel tempo? In caso affermativo, perché?
Lavoro principalmente con i pennarelli Posca sulle immagini trovate dalle riviste. Lo faccio da alcuni anni ormai ed è il mio mezzo preferito. Recentemente ho iniziato a sperimentare con le tecniche tessili ed è stato fantastico, ma può anche richiedere molto tempo.
What technique do you use? Did you always use that or did it change over time? If so, why?
I work mostly with Posca markers on found images from magazines. I’ve been doing this for a few years now and it is my favourite medium. I have recently started experimenting with textile techniques and it’s been great but it can also be very time consuming.
Cosa vuoi trasmettere con i tuoi lavori?
Molti dei miei lavori precedenti includevano i temi vanitas e memento mori piuttosto pesantemente. Al momento me ne sto lentamente allontanando, verso quelli che potrebbero essere classificati come pezzi dall’aspetto più “allegro”.
What do you want to convey with your works?
A lot of my previous work featured the vanitas and memento mori themes quite heavily. At the moment I am slowly pulling away from it, towards what could be classified as more “cheerful” looking pieces.
Cosa ne pensi della street art in Italia e all’estero?
Non so molto di street art in Italia, purtroppo quindi non sono in grado di avere un’opinione in merito.
What do you think of street art in Italy and abroad?
I don’t know much about street art in Italy, unfortunately so I am not able to have an opinion on it.
Tra tutti i tuoi lavori, qual è quello che ti piace e che ti rappresenta di più? e perché?
Penso che tutti rappresentino parti diverse di me. È difficile sceglierne solo uno perché provengono tutti dallo stesso posto e sono personali.
Among all your works, which is the one you like and represents you the most? and why?
I think all of them represent different parts of me. It’s hard to pick just one as they all come from the same place and are personal.
Quanto tempo ci vuole per preparare un’opera, dall’idea alla parete?
Dipende dallo scopo del lavoro. Se è qualcosa per un evento specifico, ci sarà più preparazione, altrimenti faccio solo quello che mi viene in mente.
How long does it take you to prepare a work, from the idea to the wall?
Depends on the purpose of the work. If it’s something for a specific event there will be more preparation involved, otherwise I just do what comes to mind.
Come ti vedi artisticamente parlando tra dieci anni?
Si spera di creare lavori più grandi e migliori.
How do you see yourself artistically speaking in ten years?
Hopefully creating bigger and better work.
Hello the Mushroom, hai collaborato con altri artisti stranieri o vorresti? Chi sarebbe e perché ammiri particolarmente questo artista?
Ho collaborato con molti artisti della scena della street art e continuerò a farlo. L’elenco è lungo e sarebbe ingiusto individuarne uno in particolare poiché sono stati tutti fantastici nel corso degli anni.
Hello the Mushroom, have you collaborated with other foreign artists or would you like? Who would it be and why do you particularly admire this artist?
I have collaborated with many artists in the street art scene and will continue to do so. The list is long and it would be unfair to single out any particular one as they’ve all been amazing over the years.
Mentori: c’è un artista da cui prendi ispirazione? Se è così, chi è? Come ti ha aiutato?
La cosa più vicina che potrei avere a qualcosa del genere sarebbero probabilmente i miei amici @hegeskundberg e @thesweettoof: parliamo molto della nostra pratica e ho imparato molto da loro perché hanno sempre buoni e pertinenti consigli.
Mentors: is there an artist from whom you take inspiration? If so, who is it? How did it help you?
The closest thing I might have to something like that would probably be my friends @hegeskundberg and @thesweettoof – we talk a lot about our practice and I’ve learned quite a bit from them as they always have good and relevant advice.
